Active members
Any person engaged in the practice
or teaching of geophysics may apply
for active membership, provided the
applicant holds a Master's degree in
Geophysics/Physics or related
Scientific or engineering discipline
from a college of acceptable
academic standards and in addition
has had three years of experience in
the practice or teaching of
geophysics or related scientific or
engineering disciplines. Credit for
experience can be counted as
follows:
Masters' degree - one (1) year
Doctor's degree- two (2) years.
The executive body may waive degree
or current professional activity
requirements if in its judgment an
applicant has adequate professional
experience and has attained standing
in the profession.
Life Members
Any person eligible to become Active
Member may apply for life
membership.
Associate Member
Any person who is a graduate of a
college of acceptable academic
standard and who is interested in
the activities of the Society may
apply for Associate Membership of
the Society.
Student Member
Any post graduate student studying
in geophysics/ physics or related
scientific or engineering discipline
may apply for student membership.
Student member shall be required to
pay half of the membership fee.
However, the Council of the Society
shall have the authority to waive
the membership fee in case student
member(s) belong to a student
chapter of the Society.
Honorary Member
Honorary members shall be those
active members of this society who
shall have contributed distinguished
service to the cause of petroleum
geophysics. Such determination shall
be made by the Council of the
Society. Honorary members shall not
be required to pay dues.
The number of such honorary members
shall be limited to 12 (Twelve).
Institutional Member
Any institute or organisation
engaged in geophysical exploration,
geophysical research or a related
field, or in furnishing services or
products used in geophysical
exploration or research or must have
an active interest in supporting the
aims and objectives of the Society.
Patron and Chief Patron
Any person belonging to any Govt.
Organisation, or public/private
sector organisation, or any other
organisation or any individual of
high professional or social standing
whose association with the Society
is considered by the Council of the
society to enhance the stature and
standing of the Society.
Election to membership
Candidate for admission as member
shall submit a formal application on
an application form authorised by
the Central Executive Body.
Executive body after due
consideration shall inform the
applicant to the election of
membership.
Resignation
Any member of whatever
classification may resign at any
time form the Society; such
resignation shall be in writing and
shall be effective only if it is
accepted by the Council of the
Society.
Loss of membership Rights
Any member of whatever
classification who resigns or who
forfeits membership for non-payment
of dues or who is expelled for
ethical reasons ceases to have any
right in the Society and ceases to
incur further indebtedness to the
Society.
Reinstatement
Any person , who has resigned, or
who has forfeited membership for
non-payment of dues, unless expelled
for ethical reasons, may be
reinstated by the Central executive
body, upon fulfillment of such
requirements as may be established
by the executive body.

Institutional members can nominate
their representative to attend
training, seminars, conferences and
other programs organised by the
society by paying nominal fee as
prescribed by the society.
