  • SPG central executive body during it's meeting on 12 June decided that 5th SPG Bi-ennial Conference and Exposition would be held at Hyderabad in January 2004.
  • It was also decided to organise a training program on 3D Survey Design (Faculty: Dr. G Vermeer of 3DSymSam, Norway). Await more details!

  • OVL is to invest US$750 Million in Sudanese JV. This will give OVL 25% stake (earlier held by Talisman Energy of Canada) in a field currently producing 2,30,000 bopd. Other partners are CNPC of China, Petronas of Malaysia and Sudapet of Sudan.
  • Oil industry continues to do well financially, thanks to ONGC and IOC, the leaders in upstream and downstream oil sector, for having improved their profit after tax by 18% and 32% respectively over last year.
  • OPEC is to maintain current crude production level.
  • Web based DGPS survey-planning services are now being made available at www.surveyplanner.com by M/S Fugro Systems.
  • BP has completed 15 well program of drilling with casing in Wyoming USA. Using normal oilfield casing as drill string, producing strata at up to 9600 ft. were drilled. More details at www.worldoil.com
  • RCC, ONGC, Kolkata has been recommended for ISO 9001 certificate for "Seismic Data Processing & Archival" by the renowned certification body BVQI. Congratulations to the unit leader Shri C.L. Balooni, CG(S) and his team.
  • Paradigm Geophisical has changed hands. Fox Paine & Company LLC, San Francisco has acquired control
of the company. Fox Paine has an investment base of over US$1.5 billion.
Relocations
Shri V.M. Saxena, Jt. Secretary is now relocated at Vadodara and Shri A.K. Dube, Treasurer and Shri A. Agarwal member Executive Committee are now at Jorhat. Shri S. Banerjee is now the Working Treasurer of SPG.

OBITUARY

It is with great sadness that we report the demise of following senior members of SPG.

1. Sh. V.N. Deekshitulu (7th Apr 1935-20th April 2002), a post graduate in Geophysics, retired as I/C, RCC, Chennai after a distinguished

 

career in ONGC. A noted geoscientist, Sh. Deekshitulu excelled in all API activities. Till recently he was working with AlphaGeo at Hyderabad. He is survived by his wife, two sons and four daughters.

2. Sh. Ashok Kumar (2nd Mar 1935- Jun 2002) ex GM (Expln.) breathed his last at Dehradun. A postgraduate in Physics from Agra Sh. Kumar was involved in all aspects of petroleum exploration in India from 1956 till his superannuation in 1990. He is survived by his two sons.

3. Sh. Rajendra Prasad (2nd Mar 1954- 24th Jun 2002) SG(S), ONGC died during course of performing official duties in Assam. A postgraduate in Chemistry, Sh. Prasad had been working with ONGC since 1976,
